Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawarathne

Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne is currently a Director at ANCL. Previously, he served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education in Sri Lanka from 2010 to 2015. During this tenure, he and his team introduced the K-SAM Graduates Model, a significant innovation in the country's higher education system. Dr. Nawaratne has a wealth of experience in both public and private sectors, having held senior managerial positions.

His academic background includes a bachelor's degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a master's degree in economics from the University of Kagawa, Japan (1987), and a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Keio, Tokyo. Dr. Nawaratne's leadership at the NIE reflects his commitment to comprehensive educational reforms, covering curriculum, teacher development, and assessment strategies. His prior role in higher education administration underscores his influence on shaping educational policies and models in Sri Lanka.
